NYCoRE & Teacher Activism

The Pedagogy of Teacher Activism owes specific gratitude to NYCoRE as the organization that nurtured Keith in his years teaching in the South Bronx and as the primary conduit through which Keith was able to connect with Rosie, Natalia, Kari, and Lisa--the teachers whose work informs and inspires the pedagogical analysis presented in the book.

However, NYCoRE represents a growing space nationally for teachers who have come together through self-organized grassroots organizations in order to realize their roles and responsibilities as educators with respect to liberatory struggles for justice in our communities. Those interested in learning more about grassroots education activist efforts can find great connections and resources through groups and educators affiliated with the national network of Teacher Activist Groups, the Education for Liberation NetworkEduColor, and Rethinking Schools.
